Stagnant Progress...

The more we spend,
The richer we get.
We get even richer,
If we sink into a debt.

When the money we earn,
Is used to pay for more stuff,
Our sales figures blossom,
Without the need to bluff.

Our land becomes attractive,
And investors start to bloom.
They create many more jobs,
But each other they consume.

Companies begin to merge,
And retrenchments will rise.
But those that remains,
Will receive more rice.

The retrenched need not worry,
For more jobs will be made.
If they lower their expectation,
They can still afford a maid.

Meanwhile, the dudes up there,
Invested in wrong places.
They chalked up heavy losses,
And need to cover their traces.

Money is needed quickly,
But we are choosy and stingy.
We take our time to pick a job,
And spend really slowly.

So they pulled in foreign talents,
To fill up the gaps,
And raised all the taxes,
So that our market won't collaspe.

They withheld retirement funds,
To invest even more,
While raising their own income,
And ignoring beggars on the floor.

But to be fair as we compare,
Our salaries also increased.
Even though it is not much,
At least it didn't decrease.

Because of our forced spending,
We indeed got richer.
But looking at the inflation rate,
I can't help but wonder.

If our earnings increase,
With the cost of living,
Then is this so-called progress,
Worth the sacrificing?
